Illumination/ Universal’s Sing 2 has added some stellar performers to its cast.

U2 lead singer Bono, Pharrell Williams, Halsey, Bobby Cannavale, Letitia Wright, Eric Andre, and Chelsea Peretti have been added to the sequel. Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon, Scarlett Johannsson, Taron Egerton, Tori Kelly, and Nick Kroll will be reprising their roles in the film.

This marks Bono’s first time voicing a character and singing in an animated film. Williams previously worked with Illumination with his tune “Happy” appearing in the soundtrack of Despicable Me 2.

In Sing 2, Buster Moon (McConaughey) and his cast go beyond the local theater and try to perform at The Crystal Tower Theater, which is the most prestigious venue in the entertainment world. To get there they’ll have to impress entertainment mogul Jimmy Crystal (Cannavale). Crystal will let them perform if Buster can convince the world’s most reclusive rock legend, lion Clay Calloway (Bono) out of self-imposed seclusion and get him to perform in the show.

Williams will play Alfonso, an elephant ice-cream truck owner, Halsey will play Jimmy Crystal’s teenage daughter, Porsche, Wright will play a feline dancer, Andre will play a self-important yak, and Peretti will play Jimmy Crystal’s canine assistant and talent scout.

Sing 2 is set for a December 22, 2021 release.
