It’s a box office drama!
With action movie Midway exceeding expectations and supernatural thriller Doctor Sleep well-falling show of them, it looks like we’re heading to a box office upset.
Early estimates show that Midway is expected to take the No. 1 spot at the box office hauling $21 million for the weekend. Doctor Sleep is looking to gross about $18 million — well under expectations of $25 million to $30 million. These numbers become even more interesting since Midway, one of the most expensive independent movies ever made has unimpressed critics which have so far awarded it a 35% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Battling for third place is Universal’s Last Christmas and Paramount’s Playing With Fire, both expected to earn circa $13 million.
