Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming movie, now officially titled Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, is shaping up nicely. After Leonardo DiCaprio accepted the role in the movie in January, it was revealed on Thursday that Brad Pitt will join the project as one of the leads. Pitt will be once again reunited with Quentin Tarantino, as the pair worked on 2009’s war movie Inglourious Basterds.

“I’ve been working on this script for five years, as well as living in Los Angeles County most of my life, including in 1969, when I was seven years old,” said Tarantino in a statement. “I’m very excited to tell this story of an L.A. and a Hollywood that don’t exist anymore. And I couldn’t be happier about the dynamic teaming of DiCaprio & Pitt as Rick & Cliff.”

Although it was rumored that the movie could revolve around Charles Manson murders, that won’t be the case, although they will be a part of the story. Tarantino describes the movie as a “story that takes place in Los Angeles in 1969, at the height of hippy Hollywood. The two lead characters are Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio), former star of a Western TV series, and his longtime stunt double Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt). Both are struggling to make it in a Hollywood they don’t recognize anymore. But Rick has a very famous next-door neighbor…Sharon Tate.”

According to the reports, one of the candidates for the role of Cliff Booth was Tom Cruise. Also, Tarantino is reportedly considering Margot Robbie and Jennifer Lawrence for the role of Sharon Tate.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is scheduled for release on August 9, 2019, the 50th anniversary of Sharon Tate’s death.

Besides Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Tarantino is also working on a Star Trek movie alongside J. J. Abrams with Mark L. Smith writing a screenplay. If the script gets approved, Tarantino will serve as a director while Abrams will produce.
