The first trailer for Brad Pitt’s new movie Ad Astra is here and it sees him traveling to the outer edges of the solar system to uncover some of the biggest mysteries of the universe.

This film sees Pitt joining forces with The Lost City of Z director James Gray, and it also stars Liv Tyler, Tommy Lee Jones, and Ruth Negga. It follows an astronaut who’s journeying through the depths of space to find his father and unravel a mystery that threatens the survival of our planet.

Gray has been developing this project for quite some time, and his main goal was to create a realistic depiction of space travel.

“The idea is a kind of mental breakdown in space, and to do it almost like Apollo footage: incredibly realistic – so no sound in space, obviously – and to do it distinguishing itself with the idea that, in a way, human beings need the Earth,” explained Gray in an interview with IndieWire.

Ad Astra has been pushed back several times in the past, but it will finally be released on September 20th, by Walt Disney Studios under the 20th Century Fox banner.
