It’s been a decade since Bradley Cooper and Christian Bale starred in American Hustle, and they’re finally ready to join forces again. They’re circling roles in the Cold War spy movie Best of Enemies, which hails from the screenwriter Eric Warren Singer.

Based on the book Best of Enemies: The Last Great Spy Story of the Cold War by Eric Dezenhall and Gus Russo, this film will center on CIA agent Jack Platt and KGB agent Gennady Vasilenko, a pair of Cold War spies who developed an unlikely friendship, after being sent to convince each other into betraying their country.

The project is still in the early stages of development, and no studios or streamers are attached to it yet, but Netflix and Apple are reportedly leading the chase for this hot package. Best of Enemies is still looking for a director, as well, but it’s possible Cooper would step behind the camera following his work on A Star is Born and Maestro.

Bradley Cooper and Christian Bale previously co-starred in David O. Russell’s crime comedy American Hustle, and both received Oscar nominations for their respective performances. Best of Enemies would also mark their second collaboration with screenwriter Eric Warren Singer, who co-wrote the script for American Hustle.
