Bradley Cooper looks to be taking a trip down Nightmare Alley.

The title belongs to Guillermo del Toro’s next project following his award-winning The Shape of Water.

The film will be a remake of the 1947 picture of the same name that was based on William Lindsay Gresham’s novel. It follows a con-man and a female psychiatrist who decide to team up and deceive the public. That is, until the doctor decides to turn the tables on her partner and “out-manipulate the manipulator”.

Leonardo DiCaprio was originally scheduled to take on the lead role, but plans fell through when an agreement could not be reached with the Once Upon a Time in Hollywood star.

Cooper, who is currently working on a biopic about musician Leonard Bernstein in which he will star and direct, is now being eyed to fill the role, with discussions underway.

Nightmare Alley is scheduled to begin filming in the fall.
