“The Favourite” Receives 13 Nods at British Independent Film Awards

Olivia Colman in "The Favourite"

Movie experts already started making predictions for this year’s awards season, and it seems like they’ve already found their favorite. The intriguing period drama The Favourite is leading the way on the list of nominations for a major ceremony – the British Independent Film Awards.

Yorgos Lanthimos’ latest film tells the story of a frail Queen Anne and two women fighting for her attention. Olivia Colman, who already emerged as an Oscar favorite, will test the ground at the upcoming BIFA ceremony where she received a nomination for best actress. Both her co-stars, Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz, got nods in the best-supporting-actress category.

The Favourite won’t hit theaters until November 23, but it already had a world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival. It was met with critical acclaim and received two major awards – the Grand Jury Prize and the Volpi Cup for Best Actress. We can’t wait to see if it replicates the same success at this year’s British Independent Film Awards on December 2, when the ceremony takes place.
