After 14 months of marriage, Sam Asghari and Britney Spears are going their separate ways. Asghari, who met Spears on the set of her music video for “Slumber Party” in 2016, filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for their separation.
After five years of dating, Spears and Asghari got engaged in 2021, and the singer confirmed their engagement by sharing a photo of her ring on social media. They got married in June last year at Spears’ California home, and Asghari signed a prenuptial agreement to protect Spears’ fortune, estimated at t approximately $60 million at the time.
The news of their split was followed by an avalanche of rumors, claiming that Asghari was intending to challenge the prenup. His rep Brandon Cohen dismissed those claims, while Asghari released a statement asking everyone to be “kind and thoughtful” during this difficult time.
“After 6 years of love and commitment to each other, my wife and I have decided to end our journey together. We will hold onto the love and respect we have for each other and I wish her the best always,” he wrote on social media.
Spears also broke the silence on Instagram, where she wrote she’s “doing pretty damn good” after the split and thanked everyone who sent her supportive messages during this difficult time.
“6 years is a long time to be with someone so, I’m a little shocked but… I’m not here to explain why because its honestly nobody’s business!!! You’re supposed to be loved unconditionally… not under conditions!!!! So I will be as strong as I can and do my best!!!” she wrote on social media.
