BTS fans were heartbroken when the K-pop group announced their hiatus this summer, and it turns out we’ll have to wait until 2025 for them to reunite. BTS members are taking a prolonged break to complete their military service and work on solo music.

Back in June, BTS announced they were taking a break from working together to focus on individual projects, but they finally came together this weekend. They performed a benefit concert in Busan to support South Korea’s bid to host the World Expo in 2030.

Just when we thought they were coming back together, Jin announced he was dropping his debut solo album later this month, but it turns out there’s a reason why he’s doing it now. He’ll enlist in the military after completing promotional events for the record, and the rest of the BTS members are set to follow.

The boy band’s agency Big Hit Music confirmed they’re taking a prolonged hiatus to “carry out their military service based on their own individual plans”, but added they’re “looking forward to reconvening as a group again around 2025 following their service commitment.”

BTS’s emotional final concert drew around 50,000 people to Busan and highlighted the group’s cultural and economic impact in their home country of South Korea.
