Chiwetel Ejiofor is currently plotting his sophomore feature film as a director, and he’ll be in pretty good company. Camila Cabello landed her second major acting role in Ejiofor’s promising new drama Rob Peace.

This film is based on Jeff Hobbs’ bestselling biography The Short and Tragic Life of Robert Peace: A Brilliant Young Man Who Left Newark for the Ivy League. It centers on Robert Peace, a young man who graduated from Yale after growing up in a crime-ridden section of Newark, New Jersey. He led a dual life and never managed to leave the world of crime behind, which eventually cost him his life.

Rob Peace will be led by Jay Will, best known as the star of Tulsa King. Mary J. Blige and Chiwetel Ejiofor will play his mother and father, while Cabello will join the project in the role of Peace’s fellow Yale student Naya.

Cabello is best known as a chart-topping recording artist, who has several Latin Grammy Awards and American Music Awards under her belt. Rob Peace will mark her second attempt at acting, following Amazon’s musical Cinderella from 2021. Her acting debut was met with mixed reviews, but that didn’t stop it from becoming the most-watched movie musical of 2021 on Amazon.
