Be careful—if you say his name he may return. The new trailer for Nia DaCosta’s supernatural slasher film Candyman has been released and it has us on the edge of our seats.

In the trailer we see the backstory of the Candyman character who’s suspected of putting razor blades in kids’ candy and he’s killed by police.

The film is a sequel to the 1992 horror film of the same name and it follows visual artist Anthony McCoy (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) and his girlfriend, art gallery director Brianna Cartwright (Teyonah Parris) after they move to a gentrified Cabrini-Green neighborhood of Chicago. McCoy hears about Candyman and he starts incorporating his spirit into his art. Candyman is summoned if someone says his name into a mirror five times, which of course happens.

The film was written by Jordan Peele, Win Rosenfeld, and DaCosta. Also starring in it are Nathan Stewart-Jarrett, Domingo, Tony Todd, Vanessa Estelle Williams, Rebecca Spence, Cassie Kramer, Kyle Kaminsky, Christiana Clark, Brian King, Torrey Hanson, Carl Clemons-Hopkins, Cedric Mays, Nancy Pender, Pam Jones, and Breanna Lind.

The film will be released on August 27, 2021. Watch the trailer below.
