A new Captain America film is in the works with the head writer of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier Malcolm Spellman and staff writer Dalan Musson to write the screenplay.

The news comes the same day that The Falcon and the Winter Soldier wrapped up the six-episode season on Disney+. The show ended with several possible directions Spellman and Musson could take the franchise.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier focused on the events post-Avengers: Endgame in which Chris Evans’ Captain America is believed to be dead and Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson is deciding whether to take the shield.

In the finale, Wilson accepts the mantle of Captain America that was handed to him by an elderly Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) at the end of Avengers: Endgame. With Captain America’s shield in hand, Wilson, who’s sporting a new red-white-and-blue costume, along with Steve’s friend Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) save the day. The show’s ending titles read, “Captain America and the Winter Soldier”.

Evans starred in the three Captain America films. 2011’s The First Avenger, 2014’s The Winter Soldier, and 2016’s Civil War are some of the most successful Marvel films, grossing over $2.2 billion worldwide.
