“Cats” Sets Hamilton’s Andy Blankenbuehler as Choreographer

Andy Blankenbuehler joins the film adaptation of the hit Broadway musical, Cats.

The upcoming Universal Pictures and Working Title’s film adaptation has tapped some major creative talent. Multiple outlets confirm that Blankenbuehler will serve as the production’s choreographer. Blankenbuehler is best-known for his recent work as the choreographer for Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Hamilton.

Cats was the fourth-longest-running show in Broadway history and was the longest-running Broadway show ever from 1997 until 2006. The film is boasting a big cast including Idris Elba, Taylor Swift, Jennifer Hudson, Judi Dench, James Corden, and Ian McKellen. The film will be direct by Tom Hopper from a script co-written with Lee Hall.

Blankenbuehler has won three Tonys for his work on Hamilton, Bandstand, and In the Heights.

Cats is dated for December 20, 2019.
