Charlie Cox explains why he thinks the Daredevil movie missed the mark.

Charlie Cox plays the titular character of Netflix original series Daredevil. The series is up there with the most popular superhero TV series made and is frequently praised by fans and critics alike.

Unfortunately, the same can’t be said of the 2003 Daredevil movie which starred Ben Affleck and only scored 44% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Speaking to The Daily Telegraph, Cox revealed what he believes the problem was with regards to the movie adaptation of the Daredevil comics.

“Going into the job, I had never read a Daredevil comic,” he said. “When I watched the film I had two feelings. One – I thought Ben Affleck did a great job. I really liked his Matt Murdock. It was in keeping with the characters in the comics.

“The problem with the film was that the best Daredevil runs in print are geared toward a slightly more mature audience. He’s not Spider-Man… not really a teenage superhero”

He added: “That’s where the film didn’t quite work – it was a little too, dare I say, comic book-y for that character.”

So if you’re looking for a more gritty and less “comic book-y” superhero story to indulge in, watch the TV series and not the movie. Seasons 1-3 of Daredevil are available to watch on Netflix now.
