Charlize Theron has proven she has what it takes to be an action heroine with roles in Mad Max: Fury Road and Atomic Blonde, and she’ll continue to do so with her next film, The Old Guard.

This exciting action flick is based on the comic book series by Greg Rucka and illustrator Leandro Fernández. It follows a small group of soldiers who’ve been working as mercenaries through the ages. Their world turns upside down after their extraordinary abilities are exposed to the world.

Theron isn’t the only actress currently attached to The Old Guard. This project will also star Kiki Layne, who got her big break thanks to last year’s drama If Beale Street Could Talk. Layne showed a lot of promise with her debut role, and it will be exciting to see her in a project of a bigger scale.

The Old Guard will be distributed by Netflix, and directed by Independent Spirit Award winner Gina Prince-Bythewood. Her previous projects include Love & Basketball, The Secret Life of Bees and Beyond the Lights.
