Craig Mazin gave us one of the most critically acclaimed and talked-about shows of the year with historical drama Chernobyl, but he has no intention to revisit this story. He discussed the possibility of Season 2 after a recent Emmy win and dismissed the idea.

HBO mini-series centered on the aftermath of the disastrous explosion at the Chernobyl nuclear power in 1986. It dramatized one of the worst man-made catastrophes in history by focusing on the people who caused the disaster and those who responded to it.

Chernobyl won three Primetime Emmys in the categories outstanding limited series, outstanding directing and outstanding writing in a limited series. While discussing the show backstage following their big victory, Craig Mazin made it clear they have no plans to film any more seasons.

“We told a story of a place in time and we did it pretty darn well, and it’s time to start thinking about other places and other times… Whatever we look at, whether it’s fiction or based on history, it’s relevant to who we are now and what we’re facing,” explained Mazin.
