It is hard imagining someone else playing Captain America besides Chris Evans, but that might become a reality after the Avengers: Infinity War sequel. Evans recently spoke with the New York Times and revealed that he has no plans to return to the franchise.

“You want to get off the train before they push you off,” said Evans.

Chris Evans initially signed a contract with Marvel for just one more Avengers movie but agreed to extend it after the Russo Brothers decided to make two movies instead of one. The 36-year-old has finished filming all of his scenes for Avengers: Infinity War sequel, and will probably get a call toward the end of this year on at the beginning of 2019 to do some reshoots. After that, he expects to end his tenure as Captain America according to the New York Times.

Chris Evans landed the role of Steve Rogers/Captain America in 2011, appearing in the Captain America: The First Avenger. He continued to portray the character in subsequent Marvel Cinematic Universe movies. He starred in The Avengers (2012), Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014), Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), Captain America: Civil War (2016) while also making cameos in other MCU movies and 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming. The next in line is Avengers: Infinity War, which is set for release on April 27, 2018.

Besides MCU movies, Chris Evans will portray Ari Kidron in upcoming biographic drama The Red Sea Diving Resort. He will also star in Kenneth Lonergan’s play Lobby Hero, alongside Brian Tyree Henry, Michael Cera, and Bel Powley.
