Struggling to imagine anyone other than Chris Hemsworth as Thor? Well, it turns out that the actor almost didn’t get the role.

Hemsworth has played the God of Thunder for 11 years, across nine films, having made his debut as the Marvel character in 2011’s Thor. Although well-loved by both audiences and critics, it seems producers were not as enamored at first.

“I think my audition sucked. I think that was the response I got,” the 38-year-old musician shared. He then suggested that his younger brother Liam take a stab at it which almost cost him his most prolific role.

“They were like, ‘Look, he’s great, but he’s a bit young.’ My manager then said, ‘Well, he does have an older brother,’ which was me, “I came back in, re-auditioned a few times and just had a different attitude. Maybe I had a little more sort of motivation that my little brother got a look in and I hadn’t. I also had done a couple of films in between those two auditions, so I had a bit more experience and confidence in what I was going to do.“

Whatever Chris did, it worked! The Aussie actor can currently be seen in Thor: Love and Thunder.
