Actor and Grammy-nominated singer Christina Milian will be joining the cast of Starz’s Step Up series, taking over the role the late Naya Rivera originally played.

Milan is set to play Colette, the character Rivera originated in the first two seasons when the show was scripted on YouTube.

The series, inspired by the Step Up dance franchise, was acquired by Starz in May 2020. Filming started in Atlanta this month. The first two seasons will be available on the platform on March 5 and the third season will air the same day.

“I am so excited to join the ‘Step Up’ family,” said Milian in a statement. “I know I have massive shoes to fill. Naya was incredible. I hope to honor Naya, her family, friends and fans with a great performance.”

The series stars Faizon Love, Jade Chynoweth, Carlito Olivero, Terrence Green, Eric Graise, Kendra Oyesanya, Tricia Helfer, and Ne-Yo.

The Step Up series is created and executive produced by Holly Sorensen. The original producers of the film, Adam Shankman, Erik Feig, and Jennifer Gibgot, and film stars Jenna Dewan and Channing Tatum also serve as executive producers. Bill Brown serves as writer and executive producer and Dawn Wilkinson serves as director and executive producer.
