Christopher Nolan has given us one of the summer’s hottest films with Oppenheimer, but what the future holds for him after this war epic finally hits the theatres? The acclaimed director addressed retirement rumors in a recent interview and revealed he’s not interested in directing another superhero film.

Nolan recently set down for an interview on CinemaBlend’s podcast ReelBlend, and briefly addressed his future after Oppenheimer. When asked if he sees himself making movies for decades to come, like Martin Scorsese, or quitting after some point, like Quentin Tarantino, here’s what he had to say:

“The truth is, I understand both points of view. It’s addictive to tell stories in cinema. It’s a lot of hard work, but it’s very fun. It’s something you feel driven to do, and so it’s a little hard to imagine voluntarily stopping.”

Nolan also added that he would trust his own “sense of the absolute value of a piece of work to know whether or not it should have been brought into existence.”

Nolan’s future seems unpredictable after Oppenheimer, but there are certain projects he’s not interested in making. In a separate interview with the YouTube channel Hugo Décrypte, he shot down the idea of making a television series and said he wouldn’t make another superhero film after the Dark Knight trilogy that made him a household name.
