It’s been almost four years since The Big Bang Theory ended its run, but it seems we’ll soon be invited back into this world. Chuck Lorre is plotting a new series set in The Big Bang Theory universe for the newly launched streaming service Max.

The reruns of this hit sitcom were one of the top draws on HBO Max before it was merged with Discovery+ and rebranded as Max. Considering its enduring popularity, revisiting this world makes sense, and Chuck Lorre Production joined forces with Warner Bros. Television to make it happen.

This spinoff is still in the early stages of development, and it’s unclear which characters it would center on. It’s unlikely it will serve as a direct sequel since Lorre and co-creator Bill Prady previously told Entertainment Weekly that the finale felt like the perfect ending.

“It’s hard to imagine what you would see after the finale because I found the finale was just one of the most beautiful and satisfying episodes. The closure it brought was astonishing. It’s hard to imagine reopening the story,” explained Prady.

The Big Bang Theory aired on CBS for 12 seasons between 2007 and 2019, and its ensemble cast included Johnny Galecki, Jim Parsons, Kaley Cuoco, Simon Helberg, Kunal Nayyar, Mayim Bialik, Melissa Rauch, and Kevin Sussman.
