Common became a household name thanks to his music, but he’s also a successful actor and currently gearing up for his next role. He’ll soon star in the indie movie The Faith of Long Beach, in addition to serving as one of its producers.

Written and directed by Eric Amadio, co-creator and executive producer of Snowfall, this boxing drama will center on a soft-spoken street fighter from Long Beach, as he tries to follow in his estranged father’s footsteps into the world of professional boxing.

Common will take the role of a washed-up trainer who tries to help the lead character become a legitimate boxer. “Marie and I are excited to be partnering with an inspiring artist like Adonis. We believe this project has a fresh point of view and with Eric on board to write and direct, it will be a raw and transformative story,” said Common in a statement.

Adonis Tountas of Everlast Pictures, who’s producing the film alongside Common, stated that he always envisioned him playing an important role, and he’s “extremely humbled and thrilled” to join forces with the Oscar winner on this project.
