Amazon is making an ambitious limited series following the Portuguese sailors Juan Sebastian Elcano and Ferdinand Magellan’s voyage around the world in the 16th century.
Now, Boundless has found its helmsman. The 4 parts limited series will be helmed by Simon West who is best known for movies like the 1990s hits Con Air and Tomb Raider.
The ambitious production will completely reconstruct two of the ships used in the original voyage – Victoria and Trinidad. Another ship, the Nao Victoria, the only ship that has made it back to the port, will make do with a replica.
The Spanish speaking limited series is funded by Mono Films and Kilima Media and produced by Miguel Menendez de Zubillaga. The script will be written by Patxi Amezcua. Shooting is set to begin this summer in the Dominican Republic, Canaries, and Pinewood Studios in the UK.
The show is set to hit the screen in 2021. “The series, directed by renowned director Simon West, will count with all technical resources to be a production full of action and epic,” said Ricardo Cabornero, head of Prime Video content at Amazon Spain.
