“Concrete Cowboy” Trailer: Idris Elba Rides Horses in the Father-Son Drama

Official trailer for Idris Elba starring
Idris Elba and Caleb McLaughlin in "Concrete Cowboy"

Netflix’s upcoming father-son drama Concrete Cowboy has gotten an official trailer.

The film, inspired by the novel Ghetto Cowboy by G. Neri and the real-life Fletcher Street cowboys, centers around a teen (Caleb McLaughlin) who is stuck between a life of crime and his estranged father’s (Idris Elba) urban-cowboy life in North Philadelphia.

Also starring in the film are Jharrel Jerome, Byron Bowers, Lorraine Toussaint, Clifford “Method Man” Smith, and members of the Fletcher Street Stables.

Elba spoke about the history of Black cowboys and how it’s been misrepresented. “It feels really apt to be able to tell a part history that’s been definitely buried, and in the case of ‘Concrete Cowboy,’ that history is right now,” he said at the Toronto International Film Festival.

The film is directed by first-time feature filmmaker Ricky Staub, who co-wrote the script with Dan Walser. Elba, Tucker Tooley, Lee Daniels, Dan Walser, Jeff Waxman, and Jennifer Madeloff serve as producers.

Concrete Cowboy will be released on Netflix on April 2. Check out the official trailer below.
