Top Gun: Maverick director Joseph Kosinski is currently plotting his next big project for Apple and its cast is turning out to be amazing. Snowfall star Damson Idris landed a key role in this racing Formula 1 movie opposite the Oscar winner Brad Pitt.

The untitled film will center on a veteran racer, who comes out of retirement to mentor a younger driver and take his final stab at glory on the track as the younger driver’s teammate. Apple landed the film in 2022 for a reported sum in the $130-$140 million range.

Kosinski will produce this project alongside Jerry Bruckheimer and Chad Oman of Jerry Bruckheimer Films, seven-time Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton via Dawn Apollo, and Pitt’s production company Plan B Entertainment.

According to Deadline, producers have been auditioning actors for Idris’ part since November, and he made the cut after proving he can handle the film’s intense driving scenes.

Damson Idris rose to prominence with the role on FX’s crime drama Snowfall, and he’s expanding his horizons as this series approaches its finale this month. He also made guest appearances on The Twilight Zone, Black Mirror, and Swarm, in addition to starring in movies Farming and Outside the Wire.
