Disney+ gave amazing spin-off shows to many of Marvel’s very best supporting players, and they’ve got another one on the way. Danai Gurira, who played the fierce warrior Okoye in Black Panther, is set to reprise her iconic role in an upcoming Disney+ series.

This promising show will tell the origin story of the Dora Milaje general, and it’s actually been in development for quite some time. Earlier this year, it’s been reported that the Black Panther director Ryan Coogler struck a five-year exclusive television deal with Disney+ and this series will be one of the projects born out of this collaboration.

In addition to appearing in this Disney+ series, Gurira is also set to play Okoye in the upcoming sequel Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. The future of this project was uncertain after the tragic passing of its main star Chadwick Boseman, but it’s been confirmed that the role of T’Challa won’t be recast and the sequel will proceed with the rest of the original cast.

Okoye isn’t the first fan-favorite Marvel character to get her stand-along series on Disney+. WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier were released to great success earlier this year, while Loki is set to premiere on Disney+ on June 9th.
