Dark Winds created quite a splash since premiering on AMC last year, and it’s coming back for another ride. Shortly after the second season of this thriller series ended its run, AMC announced they’d be renewing it for another one.
Dark Winds draws inspiration from the Leaphorn & Chee novel series by Tony Hillerman. It centers on two Navajo police officers, tribal police lieutenant Joe Leaphorn and undercover FBI agent Jim Chee, solving crimes in the 1970s Southwest.
The series is led by Zahn McClarnon and Kiowa Gordon, and it also stars Jessica Matten, Deanna Allison, Elva Guerra, Jeri Ryan, Nicholas Logan, A Martinez, and Joseph Runningfox.
Dan McDermott, president of entertainment and AMC Studios for AMC Networks confirmed the show’s renewal and said there’s so much storytelling yet to come in this universe.
“We started this journey with very high hopes for this series, given the remarkable source material and extraordinary creative team behind it, and it has delivered on every level… Thanks to the fans for embracing this series and the critics for celebrating and shining a light on it,” said McDermott in a statement.
Dark Winds will likely return in early 2025, making a shift from its summer premiere dates due to the ongoing strikes in Hollywood.
