David Cronenberg is making the leap from film to television.

The veteran director is responsible for Crash and A History of Violence on the big screen, and while he has directed single episodes on television, he has never helmed a series — even declining the opportunity to do so for season 2 of True Detective.

Whilst speaking on a panel at the Venice Film Festival (where he is also being honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award), the 75-year-old revealed that he is working on a long-form personal TV project.

“Today TV screens are getting bigger and bigger and therefore the difference between theatre and domestic viewing has become really flimsy,” he said.

Cronenberg also stated, “The rule used to be that close-up shots were only done for TV, and not for movies. But today that’s no longer the case.”

The filmmaker declined to share any specific details, claiming he “can’t talk about it yet,” but let’s hope it is not too long before it materializes.
