In 2017, David Lynch’s cult TV show Twin Peaks returned after 16 years as a limited series consisting of 18 episodes that supposed to wrap up the story. Now, when they got another taste of the Twin Peaks world and Lynch’s masterwork, the fans are hungry for more. Well, there is some good news. Although there are no new episodes planned for the future, David Lynch doesn’t rule out the possibility for that to happen. In an interview with Hollywood Reporter, Lynch was asked whether he would like to return to the world of Twin Peaks.
“I don’t know. It’s too early to say that right now.” – said Lynch.
He was then asked if he would rule out something like that, to which Lync responded: “I’ve learned never say never.”
So, there you have it. Although Lynch knows better than to get our hopes high, he still didn’t crushed them.
Created by Mark Frost and David Lynch, Twin Peaks originally debuted in 1990 and became one of the best-rated TV shows of the year. The second season wasn’t as successful, so ABC network decided to cancel it. A feature film titled Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me served as a prequel to the series and was released in 1992. Lynch then wanted to do two more movies in order to conclude the series’ narrative but those plans never came to fruition.
For a long time, Lynch claimed that Twin Peaks is dead and that he isn’t interested in a revival. Still, in 2014, Showtime successfully managed to convince him to do a 9 episodes mini-series. In 2015, Lynch wasn’t happy with the show’s budget which put the whole project in danger. Eventually everything sorted out and the episode count was doubled. Twin Peaks: The Return debuted on Showtime on May 21, 2017, and featured a majority of the original cast.
