Black Adam is the latest casualty at DC Studios.

The superhero got his own film in October, with Dwayne Johnson starring as the titular character. It was a role that The Rock had been attached to for 15 years. Although a spin-off of Shazam!, it was hoped that the movie would be the beginning of a new franchise within the DC Universe.

However, the latest shake-up at DC Studios means a Black Adam sequel has been put on by ice.

James Gunn and Peter Safran were named as joint heads of Warner Brothers at the beginning of November. The decision came about after they had advised David Zaslav, the CEO of the newly-created Warner Bros. Discovery, during his search for a new head of DC Films.

With hopes high for a Black Adam sequel, Johnson released an update that won’t please fans.

“James Gunn and I connected, and Black Adam will not be in their first chapter of storytelling,” the Hobbs & Shaw actor said. “However, DC and Seven Bucks have agreed to continue exploring the most valuable ways Black Adam can be utilized in future DC multiverse chapters.”

The news about Black Adam follows that of Wonder Woman not getting a third film, and Henry Cavill being dropped as Superman after having met with Safran and Gunn in early December.
