2016’s Deadpool was a surprise box office hit and received critical acclaim while its sequel Deadpool 2 is one of the most anticipated movies of 2018. All this would indicate that Deadpool 3 is a sure thing. Well, it’s might not be according to Ryan Reynolds.

Reynolds recently spoke with Entertainment Weekly and said that doesn’t know whether Deadpool 3 will happen.

“I don’t know that there would be a Deadpool 3. I really don’t,” said Reynolds. “I feel like the character, in order for him to function properly within his own universe, you need to take everything away from him. I don’t think that you can keep doing that.”

This, of course, doesn’t mean that we won’t see Deadpool on the big screen past Deadpool 2.

“I do see him as being a part of X-Force, obviously,” the 41-year-old actor added. “I would love to see him in a team-up sort of thing, like a mano a mano or a great female character from the X-Men universe. I just think if you’re going to do another Deadpool solo film, you’ve got to really, like, get that budget down to nothing and just swing for the fences, and break all kinds of weird barriers, and do stuff that no one else can do.”

A movie about superhero team X-Force has been in development since 2013 with Jeff Wadlow (Kick-Ass 2) originally attached to write and direct. Then in 2017 20th Century Fox announced that Drew Goddard (The Cabin in the Woods) was brought in and will serve as both writer and director. X-Force will be introduced in Deadpool 2 when Deadpool forms a team in order to protect a young mutant who is hunted by villain Cable (Josh Brolin).

Directed by David Leitch (John Wick), Deadpool 2 is set for release on May 18, 2018, in the US. The movie is bound to be a box office success like its predecessor, being projected to bring more than $100 million over its opening weekend in North America alone.
