There are some interesting developments happening on the Suicide Squad sequel…

James Gunn is helming the follow-up to the 2016 film which focuses on the group of supervillains comprising of The Joker, Harley Quinn, Deadshot, El Diablo, Enchantress, and Killer Croc.

It was reported in February that Will Smith would not be able to reprise his role as Deadshot due to scheduling conflicts, but that Idris Elba would take over the character.

Now, Variety has claimed that Deadshot has been dropped from The Suicide Squad and that the Turn Up Charlie actor will be playing a new character that has yet to be announced. The move will thus keep the door open for Smith to return to the franchise in future.

It was also believed that Margot Robbie would not return as Harley Quinn, but that rumour was debunked; and it has been confirmed that Viola Davis will once again be playing Amanda Waller.

The Suicide Squad will hit screens on the 6th of August, 2021.
