Hall of Fame basketball player Dennis Rodman and the story of his infamous trip to Las Vegas midway through the 1997/98 NBA season will be a subject of Lionsgate’s new movie 48 Hours in Vegas. The feature is produced by 22 Jump Street’s Phil Lord and Christopher Miller while Jordan VanDina (SuperMansion) serves as a writer on the project.

Rodman’s Las Vegas trip has been covered most recently in the documentary series The Last Dance, which covers the Chicago Bulls 1997/98 campaign. According to the documentary, Rodman asked Bulls head coach Phil Jackson for a vacation despite the season being underway and Bulls aiming to get their third NBA title in a row.

Chicago’s superstar Michael Jordan opposed the idea, but Jackson ended up granting Rodman 48 hours of absence. However, Rodman didn’t return after 48 hours, forcing Jordan and Jackson to go to Vegas themselves in an attempt to get him back.

48 Hours in Vegas, which sees Dennis Rodman serving as a producer, will get creative with the original story. The movie follows Rodman’s “madcap adventure in Sin City with his skittish assistant general manager” while detailing “a budding friendship that neither one of them ever thought was possible but will end up solving both of their problems.” Also, the movie will show the trip taking place in the middle of the NBA Finals opposed to the regular season.

The rest of the details, such as the release date and the cast, remain unknown.
