Denzel Washington and Julia Roberts will be starring in the family drama Leave the World Behind.
Based on the upcoming Rumaan Alam novel, the film tells the story of two families who are strangers to each other and are forced to spend a long weekend together that ends up going wrong. Race, parenthood, and class will be explored in the story.
Roberts is set to play the mother of the family that rents a house and Washington will play the homeowner.
Sam Esmail (Mr. Robot and Homecoming) is directing from his own adapted script. Along with starring in Leave the World Behind, Washington and Roberts are producing with Esmail and Chad Hamilton.
Roberts has previously worked with both Washington and Esmail—she starred with Washington in the 1993 legal thriller The Pelican Brief and she worked with Esmail on the first season of Amazon’s Homecoming.
