Aladdin was a hit. The Lion King too. Soon we will get to see a new version of Mulan. So, do you think Disney will stop making live-action remakes of their movies? Not likely. One of the next stories that are now getting the live-action treatment is Rapunzel. To be fair, it is not really a remake – but the studio did make Tangled, which is similar in concept.

The screenplay for the new movie will be written by Ashleigh Powell (The Nutcracker and the Four Realms) and it will be produced by Michael De Luca (Moneyball, Captain Phillips) alongside Kristin Burr (Christopher Robin). No other names are attached to the project at the moment.

The last animated version of the story, Tangled, which was released in 2010, was a huge success and it actually spawned a franchise of its own with Tangled: The Series and two short Movies – Tangled: Ever After and Tangled: Before Ever After. The movie itself grossed $593 million around the world.

It should be noted that the new project is developed as a theatrical release and not as a movie meant to the streaming service Disney+.
