Disney Drops First Trailer for “Cruella” Starring Emma Stone

Cruella de Vil is the latest Disney villain to get her own live-action origin story, and we finally know what it will look like. The first trailer for Cruella is here, and it shows Oscar winner Emma Stone transform into one of Disney’s most notorious evil masterminds.

According to the official logline for this highly-anticipated project, Cruella “follows a young grifter named Estella, a clever and creative girl determined to make a name for herself with her designs” in 1970s London amidst the punk rock revolution.

This new take on Dodie Smith’s beloved novel The Hundred and One Dalmatians was first announced at D23 Expo in 2019, with Craig Gillespie serving as the director. In addition to Emma Stone, the cast also includes Emma Thompson, Joel Fry, Paul Walter Hauser, Emily Beecham, and Mark Strong.

Cruella is set to premiere on May 28th, as one of the first major movies from Disney’s slate to hit U.S. theaters this year. Marvel’s Black Widow and 20th Century Studios’ Free Guy are both expected to premiere the same month under the Disney moniker.
