Will the X-Men join the Marvel Cinematic Universe? It seems that Disney is making sure to keep that option available if needed. The studio is now managing The New Mutants, a project that was born during the FOX era of X-Men and rather than canceling it, the company is moving forward and it is due to hit theaters on April 3, 2020.

However, FandomWire reports that Disney is making sure to remove all mentions of mutants from the movie in order to disconnect it from the veteran franchise. The movie will probably be a standalone – not an X-Men movie and not connected to the MCU. According to the report, this movie is due not only to the state FOX had left the franchise in following the bomb that Dark Phoenix was, but also to allow a proper introduction of the characters into the MCU.

It is still unknown what movie we can expect in April. Disney will surely have to change a lot of it in order to meet their goal – including the title, character names, and even the identity of the antagonist who is said to be a classic X-Men villain, Mr. Sinister.
