Did Christmas come early this year? According to Disney and Lucasfilm, that may just be the case. The companies have announced that The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special will land exclusively on Disney+ on Tuesday, November 17th.

The official synopsis released reads: “Rey leaves her friends to prepare for Life Day as she sets off on a new adventure with BB-8 to gain a deeper knowledge of the Force. At a mysterious Jedi Temple, she is hurled into a cross-timeline adventure through beloved moments in Star Wars cinematic history, coming into contact with Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, Yoda, Obi-Wan and other iconic heroes and villains from all nine Skywalker saga films. But will she make it back in time for the Life Day feast and learn the true meaning of holiday spirit?”

It seems the new holiday special will also make an homage to the 1978’s now-infamous Star Wars Holiday Special. George Lucas has actually disowned the original special. He has never released it on home video and it survived only with bootleg recordings uploaded by fans. However, the official press release explicitly mentions “Chewbacca’s homeworld of Kashyyyk for a Wookiee-sized celebration of the galaxy’s most cheerful and magical holiday, Life Day.”

The holiday special is directed by Ken Cunningham with a script written by David Shayne. Shayne is also an executive producer alongside James Waugh, Josh Rimes, Jason Cosler, Jacqui Lopez, Jill Wilfert, and Keith Malone. We can only hope the new special will be a significant improvement.
