The list of the live-action adaptations of Disney classics is getting longer by the day, and the studio just added another one to the mix. Hercules is the latest Disney classic to get the live-action treatment, and Guy Ritchie is set to direct.

Dave Callaham wrote the first draft of the script and Disney is in the process of hiring writers to develop it further. The film will be produced by AGBO, the production company run by Avengers: Endgame directing duo Joe and Anthony Russo.

Ritchie is a pretty obvious director for this project because he already has a great track record with Disney. He previously worked on the live-action remake of Aladdin starring Will Smith, Mena Massoud, and Naomi Scott, which grossed over $1 billion worldwide in 2019.

Following its release, Ritchie took a break from kid-friendly projects and returned to the action genre with The Gentlemen and Wrath of Man. His next film Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre doesn’t have a release date after being pulled from the release schedule, but he’s also been working on the untitled action thriller starring Jake Gyllenhaal.

Hercules joins Disney’s busy slate of live-action remakes. Pinocchio and Peter Pan & Wendy will hit the theatres later this year, while The Little Mermaid is set for the 2023 release date.
