The TV show based on Rick Riordan’s hit book series Percy Jackson and the Olympians was a long time coming and we won’t have to wait for it for much longer. Disney+ dropped a new teaser for the book’s highly-anticipated TV adaptation, along with the December release date.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians will center on the titular a 12-year-old modern demigod, who’s still coming to terms with his newfound supernatural powers. His life turns upside down after the sky god Zeus accuses him of stealing his master’s lightning bolt, and he must trek across America to find it and restore order to Olympus.

Walker Scobell will lead the series in the role of Percy Jackson, and he’ll be joined by Leah Sava Jeffries as Annabeth Chase and Aryan Simhadri as Grover Underwood. Jason Mantzoukas, Megan Mullally, Glynn Turman, Virgina Kull, and Lin-Manuel Miranda also star.

Riordan’s books were previously adapted into two films starring Logan Lerman, but fans of the series are hoping the Disney+ adaptation will be more faithful to the source material. Riordan tried to ensure this by working closely with showrunners Jon Steinberg and Dan Shotz, and he’ll also serve as one of the show’s executive producers.

The first two episodes of Percy Jackson and the Olympians will premiere on Disney+ on December 20, while the remaining six will stream weekly.
