Disney teased many of their highly-anticipated projects at D23 Expo this weekend, but none of them received more buzz than The Little Mermaid. The first teaser trailer for this live adaptation is finally here and it shows Halle Bailey channeling her inner Ariel.

The Little Mermaid draws inspiration from Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale of the same name, and it serves as a live-action remake of the 1989 animated classic. In addition to Bailey, the new version will also star Melissa McCarthy, Jonah Hauer-King, Javier Bardem, Noma Dumezweni, Daveed Diggs, Lorena Andrea, Kajsa Mohammar, Jacob Tremblay, and Awkwafina.

The leading lady Bailey was one of the people present at the film’s presentation at D23, and she reflected on the amazing privilege to embody this character. She also reflected on the filming of “Part of Your World”, describing it as the most beautiful experience of her life.

“Being a little girl swimming in the pool, imagining I was a mermaid, I never imagined that would come to life… It was so exciting for me to play those emotions and to have Rob [Marshall] directing me and being such a moving force on this film was really an honor,” said the young actress.

The Little Mermaid will premiere in theatres on May 26, 2023, and the studio is yet to share details about its streaming rollout on Disney+.
