Fans of the Country legend Dolly Parton got a real treat when Netflix announced the singer will star in its festive Christmas movie Christmas on the Square. The movie will include 14 new original songs by Parton.
Parton will portray an angel who helps a wealthy and unpleasant woman to realize the error of her ways. According to the movie’s synopsis, “Regina Fuller returns to her small hometown in the wake of her father’s death to evict everyone right before the holiday season. Following an encounter with an angel, a rekindling of an old romance and stories from the local community, she has a change of heart.”
Debbie Allen is the movie’s director. Christine Baranski will play Fuller. Alongside the two actresses, the movie will also feature Jenifer Lewis, Treat Williams, Jeanine Mason, Josh Segarra, Mary Lane Haskell, Matthew Johnson, and Selah Kimbro Jones. The movie is set for a November 22 release.
Meanwhile, Parton has released one of the main songs of the movie – Christmas on the Square. The song is taken from her upcoming Christmas album A Holly Dolly Christmas—her first Christmas album in 30 years.
