Dr. Dre is to produce a biopic about Motown legend Marvin Gaye.

Dre, whose real name is Andre Young, has secured the rights to the singer’s catalog as well as singer’s family estate’s blessing to produce the biopic.

The singer-rapper’s film credits include 2015 Oscar-nominated Straight Outta Compton, on which he also served as producer. The film chronicled the rise of his hip-hop group N.W.A and grossed over $200m worldwide.

This isn’t the first time a biographical movie about the “Let’s Get It On” singer has been ventured including attempts by Cameron Crowe, James Gandolfini, and Scott Rudin. This also won’t be the first time the singer’s estate gives its blessing to dramatize the life of Gaye — back in 2016 it approved a limited series starring Jamie Foxx.

Also in development is a documentary titled What’s Going On; slated for a 2017 release, it has been reported that the project is still in development.

Hopefully, this attempt will actually make it to our screen.
