Dr. Dre managed to establish himself as one of the most trailblazing artists on the hip-hop scene over the course of the last three decades, and the Recording Academy is recognizing his production work with a special award.

The famous rapper will be honored at the 13th annual Producers and Engineers Wing – the event that kicks off Grammy Week a few days ahead of the actual ceremony, taking place on January 26th, 2020 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Deborah Dugan, president of the Recording Academy, described Dr. Dre as an influential force in music and said they’re looking forward to his future creative endeavors.

“Dre breaks boundaries and inspires music creators across every genre. His evolution as a producer solidifies him as a leader of the pack within our industry, and we watch in amazement as he continues to shape the future of music,” said Dugan in a statement.

Dr. Dre, whose real name is Andre Young, already has six Grammys under his belt before being announced as the winner of this special honor, including three for his production work.
