Dua Lipa is back in the spotlight with her latest studio album Future Nostalgia, but it was her viral hit “New Rules” that had put her on the map and she recently looked back at the success of this breakup anthem and explained how it changed her life.

Lipa recently made an appearance on Rolling Stone Music Now podcast and described how she feels about “New Rules” three years after it became global phenomenon.

“I’m so grateful for that song because it really did change my life. It gave me the kind of confidence I needed to be able to take a leap in my career that was out of my comfort zone,” explained the singer.

Lipa also added she’s not bored of singing the same song over and over again, because she’s not necessarily doing it for herself, but for other people who love it.

“New Rules” was one of the defining summer songs of 2017, and it topped the charts in several countries across Europe. It was Lipa’s top-charting Billboard Hot 100 hit until this year when it was surpassed by “Don’t Start Now”, which peaked at no. 2.
