Dua Lipa gave us one of the best pop albums in recent years with Future Nostalgia, and she’s finally plotting its follow-up. After weeks of dropping cryptic hints about new music on social media, the British hitmaker kicked off her next era with a magical new single “Houdini”.

The music video for Lipa’s latest single hails from director Manu Cossu and cinematographer André Chemetoff. It sees the singer rehearsing the choreography for her latest single at a dance hall under fluorescent lights, surrounded by a group of backup dancers, while the room’s mirrors create a wild optical illusion.

In a recent interview with BBC Radio 1‘s Greg James, Lipa described “Houdini” as “a very dark, after-hours psychedelic club track” and further explained its meaning.

“The song is essentially about knowing when to stay and knowing when the right time to leave is. I think a lot of that comes from getting to know yourself, becoming really confident in the fact that, you know what, you deserve that kind of thing,” said Lipa.

“Houdini” will be featured on Lipa’s third studio album, but she’s yet to share its title and release date with the world. The singer previously told Variety she’ll explore “1970s-era psychedelia” on her next LP, but added it will still be a sonically different pop record.
