Movies based on true stories are everywhere these days, but it’s impossible not to get invested in some of them. The first trailer for Dumb Money will suck you into the world of the wild GameStop stock story, which shook Wall Street to its core.

Sony’s official synopsis describes this movie as “the ultimate David vs. Goliath tale, based on the insane true story of everyday people who flipped the script on Wall Street and got rich by turning GameStop (yes, the mall videogame store) into the world’s hottest company.”

The film will center on Keith Gill (Paul Dano), a regular guy who kicked off the stock craze surrounding GameStop after posting about it on social media. After his posts blew up, he earned a fortune overnight – until the Wall Street billionaires decided to fight back after their world turned upside down.

In addition to Dano, the star-studded cast of this film includes Pete Davidson, Vincent D’Onofrio, America Ferrera, Nick Offerman, Anthony Ramos, Sebastian Stan, Shailene Woodley, and Seth Rogen. The 2021 book The Antisocial Network by Ben Mezrich served as the basis for the script by Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo, while Craig Gillespie came on board as a director.

Dumb Money will be released by Sony Pictures on September 22, after the studio moved up the release date by a full month.
