Since the beginning of his acting career, Dwayne Johnson was hoping he’ll get a chance to portray King Kamehameha, the first ruler of Hawaii. His dream is finally coming true. The Rock just joined historical epic The King, directed by Robert Zemeckis.

This upcoming project will give the action star a chance to truly show his acting chops. Embodying Kamehameha on the big screen will be his biggest challenge to date, but Johnson can’t wait to jump right into it. He was the one responsible for making sure this project would happen in the first place. The Rock and his work partners Dany and Hiram Garcia convinced Randall Wallace of Braveheart fame to pen the script. The trio will produce the upcoming film through their company Seven Bucks Productions.

The King will center of Kamehameha, the legendary king who united the warring Hawaiian Islands for the first time in history. By taking control of Hawaii’s destiny, he gave islanders leverage in advancing their culture and trade with foreign ships coming to this secluded paradise.

By achieving these goals, Kamehameha fulfilled the prophecy that surrounded his fabled life since birth. It doesn’t come as a surprise Dwayne Johnson wanted to bring his story to life… Especially since it gives him a chance to honor his ow Hawaiian heritage!
