Dwayne Johnson is one of the most beloved wrestlers who found success on the big screen, and his next project will see him mixing his two biggest passions into one. He’s set to play UFC champion Mark Kerr in the upcoming biopic Smashing Machine.

Kerr, who previously served as the subject for the HBO documentary The Smashing Machine, was a two-time UFC heavyweight tournament champion when the mixed martial arts competition was still on the rise. He also battled with many personal demons, and that’s part of the reason why Johnson decided to secure Kerr’s life rights for the project.

In addition to playing the lead role, The Rock will also produce this project through his company Seven Bucks Productions, and he can’t wait to bring Kerr’s incredible story to the masses.

“Here’s a guy who won the two-time heavyweight tournament in the early stages of UFC, and here’s also a guy who also went over to PRIDE. He had this incredible run, as many of these warriors have, and I wanted to shine a spotlight on this man,” Johnson said at a recent UFC event.
