The release date of Ed Sheeran’s new album Subtract is just two weeks away and he just dropped a new single “Boat”. The music video for this song sees him being crushed by waves on a beautiful beach while trying to overcome his sorrow.

When he initially teased the song on social media, Sheeran revealed that “Boat” was the first track he wrote and finished for his new album Subtract. It will serve as the album’s opening track, and he felt this is a good way to kick things off since “it’s where it all began.”

Like the rest of his upcoming album, “Boat” sees the singer honestly reflecting on his depression. His upcoming album will explore similar themes, and it’s inspired by a series of events that affected his mental health and changed the way he views music.

“As an artist I didn’t feel like I could credibly put a body of work into the world that didn’t accurately represent where I am and how I need to express myself at this point in my life. This album is purely that. It’s opening the trapdoor into my soul,” wrote Sheeran in a statement.

“Boat” was released as the second single from the singer’s upcoming fifth studio album Subtract, set to be released on May 5.
